i will keep shamefully bumping this.

i have overeaten for so many years - i don't know what a normal amount of food is.

i have recently dropped 12lbs and have done various diets - but at the moment i am doing very well ( i think) re-training myself on portion sizes and not snacking.

today i ate for dinner 2 sandwiches ( 4 slices of small wholemeal bread) with beef salad.

then for tea i had a small portion of lasagne with a very small amount of chips ( around 10 chips if that) and beans.

i had 2 drumstick lollies from trick o treat bag.

now i know about healthy eating etc. what i dont know is what normal people eat day to day.

yesterday i had cous cous for dinner at work ( small portion) then i had about half a frozen pizza

please help me out

i seriously dont know what normal people eat day to day.

I lost a load of weight once I started having a really really good breakfast.

5' 2" Size 6/8 (thinnest I've ever been)
Breakfast - one small glas oj
Two slices of bread/toppings
One cup of coffee

Lunch - One large glass sparkling water
sandwich and/or soup
Dinner - fish or meat (red meat once a week or
less)
fresh veggies and/or salad
No pudding

Try to drink about 1lt or more of water a day and keep wine to 2 glasses max Always allow myself a mini choccie treat at night.

Everybody is very different it seems, reading this thread. You could mirror some thin person's eating habits and put weight on, or mirror some fat person, and lose weight. We are not the same.

I couldn't really post a day's menu for me as they are all so different. Some days I barely swallow 1,000 calories, but other days I eat enough to feed a family of four!

I rarely eat if I'm not hungry though. I skip lunch if I'm not hungry, or replace it with fruit or a cup or two of tea. I have no 'rules'

Oh... I'm 5ft 8in and size 8 - 10.

I'm 5'4" and a size 12. I have trouble controlling my weight if I don't watch what I eat (e.g. if I go on holiday for a week and don't think about what I eat, and have just what I want, I would put on about 5lb).

For a normal day to maintain my weight, I would eat roughly the following:-

Breakfast - bowl of cereal, tea.
Mid morning - banana
Lunch - sandwich, 2 slices bread with ham/salad, tuna/salad or similar filling + fruit (apple, satsuma, grapes etc)
Mid afternoon - either some nuts or a biscuit or a small piece of cake.
Dinner - cooked meal (pasta dish, risotto, stir-fry, roast meat) + veg. Couple of glasses of wine.
Would also drink several glasses of water during the day, and maybe some more cups of tea.

Don't do much formal exercise, but do walk regularly as don't drive.

It's interesting that I saw a programme on tv once where they took several volunteers, and fed them all more than they needed to eat, keeping them in the same conditions, and giving them all the same activities. Some of them put on weight and some didn't. When they analysed their activity patterns, they noticed that all the ones who stayed the same weight increased their activity. Not by any formal exercise or sports, but just by getting up and walking around more, or fidgetting a lot.

I know that I'm not like that. I tend to keep very still if I'm not doing a specific task, and even stay very still when I'm asleep. If I've slept alone in the bed, it looks as if no-one has slept in it by the morning, whereas some people toss and turn all night.I really have to make a conscious effort to move more if I want to lose weight.

not quite 5" weigh 8 stone,

my breakfast has been porridge, with banana and sultanas, made with full fat milk, possibly toast, tea without milk

2nd breakfast toast and p.butter, no butter(I don't use margarine ever) coffee(without milk), plus something sweet

lunch ham, cheese, bread and butter, fruit

snacks throughout the day, sultanas and chocolate

tea, pasta, full cream, pesto, veg, parmesan, coffee, a tiny glass of wine

supper more toast, olives, beer, stop eating by 8pm, drink chamomile tea

I don't drive, so walk a lot, do all my shopping on foot, cook from scratch, enjoy my food, I have never eaten low fat food purposely, my clothes vary, size ten on lower half, but big boobs (32f) mean that I need a 12/14 on top, I do wish I was a wee bit slimmer, sometimes, and when I do I try to be more active.
