Baking recipe meaning

If a recipe says 'beat the butter, sugar, eggs and flour together', does it really mean all at once? Or does it presume you know to cream the butter and sugar first, then add eggs one at time, then flour?

Is this the 'all in one' method I've vaguely heard of?

Thanks.
