sweet and sour sauce

I want a recipe for a sweet and sour sauce that is nice and thick that I can make up in a large quantity and then add meat or vegetables afterwards, even freeze for the next week.

I want to avoid ketchup or sugar if I can

How do you get the sweet taste without sugar? Just curious?

1 table spoon of soy sauce
2 table spoon sugar
3 table spoon white wine vinegar
4 table spoon tomato purée
200mls water

Mix together and pour over whatever you are using and cook for about 10 mins.

From experience you need the sugar or it's horribly sour.

You can use pineapple chunks in syrup to sweeten it. You could try replacing the sugar with Splenda.

Hairy dieters sweet and sour chicken recipe is good. Give it a Google

I was hoping the pineapple would be the sweetener for the sauce rather than refined sugar - thanks for the suggestions

I use a weight watchers recipe which is tasty. I can't remember it exactly so treat this as approximate.
Juice from tinned pineapple
Soy sauce
Cornflour
Honey
Chicken stock
It's good. More subtle than take away but def tasty.
