Dairy and egg free Easter dessert

vvviola · 27/03/2015 11:30

We're going to my parents' for Easter Sunday dinner and I've offered to do the dessert.

DD2 is allergic to dairy and egg so that complicates matters a bit.

Any suggestions for a fancy/special Easter dessert that is dairy and egg free? Preferably not predominantly chocolate based either as DM isn't keen on chocolate and there will be a lot of chocolate (dairy free and otherwise) floating about over Easter.

Fruit or mint sorbet, jelly.

You can find lots of dairy and egg free recipes on vegan sites. I have seen dairy/egg free cheesecake.

Poached pears with a suchard sauce (essentially chocolate and sugar syrup)? It obviously has chocolate in but is predominantly fruity. Fruit tarts, crumbles (using stork for the pastry/crumble) with Swedish glacé. I reckon you could make a dairy free treacle tart. Apple hat, Sussex pond pudding use suet pastry. Summer pudding using frozen berrys.

This is making me hungry!

Treacle tart is tasty and I've had it in fancy restaurants....so it must be fancy! Grin

I made a butterscotch sauce recently and served over banana and strawberries, this was a second pudding but went down very well as a lighter pudding.

The sauce is made and keeps for a few days in the fridgefridge

Sorry, I meant to come back and say thanks for the suggestions! The Bakewell Tart that Shedding suggested is in the oven right now and looks fab! Grin

Well it was a complete and utter success Grin

To the extent that when DDad said "here, do you want to take the rest of this home?", DM quickly jumped in with "oh they have their hands full, they can get it tomorrow". I suspect she is planning on having a slice with her cup of tea this evening Grin
