I've got a haunch of Venison, won in a pub draw! And have no idea what to do with it!!
It's not very big. Is it best roasted or stewed?
Not even sure I've tasted venison before so looking forward to giving it a go

I think haunch is lovely roasted- initially at a v high temperature, then turned down a little, serves medium rare to rare. Mix juices with a little red wine and reduce a bit into a lovely jus to go with it. Lovely with fingerling potatoes and roast root vegetables.

Few haunch recipes [[http://www.blackface.co.uk/recipes_cat.asp?cat=20]]

You can stew it, but it's a bit of a waste IMHO.

I did this on Christmas Day, and it was a great success.

It tastes rather like well-hung beef.

Thanks everyone, it's in the oven now! It had the feel and look of liver when raw Hmm
But smells divine, cooking with a dash half a bottle of Shiraz
