cowgirl stew - to brown or not to brown?

Very excited by my new mn cookbook (sausage rolls excellent!) Am trying the Cowgirl stew next, but it doesn't say anything about browning the sausages. Would they not be all floppy and pale if put straight in from raw? Or is this a brilliant short cut I have been missing out on?

Funny you should ask the question. The first time I made it I didn't brown. Sausages tasted good, but looked odd. Have browned them ever since!
Lovely, satisfying stew. Much loved by me. (Unfortunately not by my children!?!)

Thanks squeeg. Thought that might be the case. Although hoping that the kids think it'sthe best thing they've ever eaten!

I don't have the book, but whenever I make something like sausage casserole in the slow cooker or stewed slowly in the oven I do brown them a little first - because otherwise they just don't colour and come out looking all pale and unappetising even though they taste the same. Think it's worth a couple of minutes and washing the pan to get a bit of colour on them!
