Does this have to be kept refrigerated even when un -opened?

I took a carton out of the fridge for most of yesterday as the fridge was full. I am certain I have seen it for sale in the supermarkets in non- refrigerated areas - like the UHT milk?

Am I going to poison DS ?

I think it depends on whether it was in the refrigerated section in the supermarket when you bought it. If it has been UHT treated then no, but if not I would say yes.

Thanks bun - I can't remember where i picked it up from though.

Mind you, I have just poured some away that had been opened for a couple of weeks, and was past its bb date. It smelt fine.

I'll get DS to taste it later and see what he thinks. (he is 17 btw, I'm not experimenting on a baby :) )

Hm.. well, I just looked at my carton, it does say 'Keep refrigerated' (rather than refrigerate after opening). But the use by is over a month off (for unopened).

Having an unopened carton out for most of yesterday should be fine though... when I was growing up, pasteurised milk wouldn't be in a fridge for a day or more because we didn't have a fridge.

Thanks Errol.

Yes, it does say to keep refrigerated.

I am not too precious about use by dates anyway - so will probably buy more today as have a shopping trip - but will taste/smell the current carton to see if it's okay.
