Beef in beer, followed by Apple and pecan crumble.

Something salady perhaps?

Something light and fishy? Maybe smoked mackerel fillets on a rocket salad or similar, with a citrus dressing (orange?)

Potted shrimp with toast and salad always nice.

Or a lovely blue cheese, pear and walnut salad (could also add some crispy bacon?).

Ooh both of those sound yummy - thank you!

Delia has a fab recipe for mackerel pate. It's smooth and creamy and can be done in advance Smile

JamNan · 27/02/2015 08:27

scallops with leeks
mackerel pate
smoked salmon on brown bread or with lentil salad
smoked salmon souffle (one that you can prepare ahead)
marinated beetroot with goats cheese (I know not everyone likes beets)
I've got a recipe somewhere for beetroot hummus and it's lovely
soup
a nice retro prawn cocktail?

Fried pancetta, beetroot, croutons and a mixed leaf salad with balsamic vinegar topped with goats cheese...mmmmmm!

Potted shrimp with loads of butter, brown toast & a wedge of lemon, stay retro.

Celeriac and mackerel remoulade is tasty & involves no cooking just grating & mixing

Smoked salmon pate is yum on melba toast. I mix equal quantities of chopped smoked salmon and cream cheese, add some horseradish to taste and stir in some chopped chives. Easy peasy and tastes delicious.

Smooth chicken liver pate
Toasted goats cheese with salad
Asparagus wrapped in Parma ham and roast or grilled
Prawn cocktail
