If I'm using a recipe that says it will make a cake 3 inches deep and my tins
Is ony 2 inches deep, if I split my mixture between two tins will the bake ok ? I'm worried they will cook too quickly round the edges
I may wrap the tins in newspaper as this is supposed to stop the edges burning

What sort of cake are you baking? Normally wrapping in newspaper will slow the bake down, and it is really only used for fruit cakes where the temperature is low. With a sponge cake you want the temperature higher so that you get a good rise. You will just shorten the cooking time a bit, I would say. You don't want a fire in the oven with burning newspaper as that would give you ashes in your cake mix........and a heck of a fright!
