We had to look this up the other week, therefore it is officially not a stupid question .
It just depends how soft and tender the outside is - if it's a bit tough you might not want to bother, if it's nice and soft, you can.

Ah thanks Kathy - I don't feel quite so thick now
In the recipe I have you put goats cheese in the centre of the figs then wrap figs in parma ham and I thought that was odd as you'd end up having to unravel the ham.
