I need a bigger steamer pan, or go electric?

I have a standard saucepan with two steamer baskets I've had and used for years. It's just not quite big enough for my needs now. I usually boil potatoes in the bottom and put veg above.
Has anyone seen any bigger ones which aren't super-expensive? I think mines 20cm.
Would an electric one work for me? And can you set the different layers to come on at different points in the cooking? I've never used one and always wondered!

With the electric ones, the same lid fits all the tiers. So you just add your veg tier after the appropiate time.

Or there's this 23cm steamer?

Electric anything means surface clutter.

I definitely don't have room for more clutter. The one oldbeanbagz linked looks ok, although the reviews aren't brilliant, and I was hoping for plastic handles. They have a few others on Amazon but they are really expensive. Ill keep looking though...

I wouldn't go electric personally. When I left uni I remember spending £100 on a stainless steel pan, which was a fortune for me at that point in my life.

It has three steamer layers, a pasta insert and a bain marie .... I still use it almost daily 26 years later.

I have always bought the best 'traditional' cookware I could afford and tbh I can't see myself ever having to replace it.

Can you buy another tier for the one you have. I can't remember what brand my ancient one is but I have another cuisinart pan with steamer now, they all work together.

I think you're right, it's worth spending the money. The one I have is used about 3 times a week and I've had getting on for 10 years.
It's not the tiers I need more space in, it's the bottom pan I'd like bigger as I have to fill it right to the bottom tier to cook as much potato as I need to and then it boils over and makes a terrible mess!

Could you look for a pasta pot with the same diameter as your steamer - they tend to be quite deep pans.
