my mum used to make amazing mushroom and cream ones. never made them myself, it's pretty retro but might be fun. plus i think you can do them in advance and freeze them.

anything in a creamy sauce, so mushrooms, chicken, prawns, asparagus

nailpolish · 16/10/2006 16:40

omg i love volauvents

with coronation chicken

I am reliably informed that Jus-Rol are the best ready made cases, and prawns in 1000 island sauce, tuna and sweetcorn, chicken in white sauce are all good fillings.

I love eating them but have never made them! They are very 'Abigail's Party'!

I made them for a party last yesr - always seem to go down well. I did some with hummous and some with cream cheese and pesto

KathyMCMLXXII · 16/10/2006 16:44

Yes.
Young trendy types will think they are retro, old people will think they are posh.
You will just be gloating at how easy they were (packet puff pastry etc).

I went to a party a while ago. There were some vol-au-vents made with shredded chicken breast mixed with mayonnaise and a tiny bit of curry powder. v v nice

bewilderbeast · 16/10/2006 17:09

I love vol au vents. Especially with chicken and mushroom or prawns. Really like the idea of the coronation chicke ones too

nailpolish · 16/10/2006 17:10

you can make sweet ones as well as savoury

whipped cream and peaches and raspberry sauce - very retro peach melba

Gem13 · 16/10/2006 17:29

Yes - prawns and mushrooms for me please. I'd like a few.

RottenOtter · 16/10/2006 17:44

yum

HowwwlidaymumsSalemPilgrimage · 16/10/2006 17:48

captain yummy from yumsville! Anything mushroomy and creamy

TheBlairAitchProject · 16/10/2006 20:09

nailpolish those peach melba ones sound fantastic! i'm 'avin that.

corrina28 · 19/10/2006 11:29

i would definatley make them, they can be baked the day before and stored in a tub then filled just before you serve them and if you are really lazy (like me) then you can buy tubs of deli fillers, egg mayo, tuna, chicken etc to fill them with, or try something more extravagant like philadelphia and smoked salmon?
