kids asked what's for dinner, I said something chicken.

I had no idea

so I put chicken breasts in glass oven dish. added mushrooms

then I thought I fancy pineapples so added two tins of chopped pineapples, bit of seasoning.and put it all in the oven.

Then thought pasta would go nicely with it. and sweetcorn. cooked both.
then found leftover white sauce. chucked in pot.and a bit of mustard? why not.

and that's it. dinner done. looks and tastes delish.

what did you rustle up last time?Smile

Sounds bloody lovely. Grin

I need to be a little more daring in the kitchen I reckon. I wouldn't cook like that, not because I think it would taste bad, but because I haven't got the balls! Perhaps I will try and experiment more, my guess is that I'd probably be pleasantly surprised. Smile

Oh yes, chicken 'thing'... I make things like this a lot Grin Also sausage 'thing', mince 'thing', bean and vegetable 'thing' and 'something' pie ( which is normally whatever I can find in the fridge, bound with white sauce and under pastry or (savoury!) crumble topping.

I do this all the time

Tonight I looked in the fridge and came up with

Chorizo, garlic and onions fried
Added tinned tomatoes
A handful of olives and some chopped celery
Some carrot batons
A tin of sweetcorn.

Stick in the oven - ten minutes before we wanted to eat I cracked some eggs into it - eat when the eggs are cooked.

I love cooking like this.

I'm the same, I get stuff at the start of the week and just go with it. I don't think I've had the same dinner in about 2 months cosmi never really fancy a particular meal and my husband is all 'Imdunnomwhatmdo you want?'

mawbroon · 10/11/2014 20:27

I did this tonight. I was going to be until just before tea time so made a pie and put it in the automatic oven.

The fridge was pretty bare, so I bunged in trout, pesto and mushrooms. It was really tasty!

I make something-fried-rice if there are lots of scraps of stuff that need using. For eg rice, eggs, peas, peppers, carrots, broccolli, soy sauce, leftover chicken for the meat eater.

futterwacken · 10/11/2014 20:31

I don't think I'm brave enough to chuck pineapple around willy nilly though.

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/11/2014 20:33

Yes, I often cook like this. Usually when food's getting low and I'm either too skint or too lazy to go to the shops. Usually it's fine but there have been some shockers.

zippyandbungle · 10/11/2014 20:34

My family love tapas sunday. It's a bit of whatever is left in the fridge. As long as I have a chorizo and potatoes I can proud a decent spread.

scousadelic · 10/11/2014 20:36

Tonight we had veg found in the fridge (courgette, shallot and pepper) layered with leftover marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese then baked. Served it with roast chicken thighs and broccoli.

We regularly have fridge for supper. Variants include fried fridge, fridge risotto, fridge and pasta, or fridge omelette. The definition of fridge can be extended to include freezer (frozen peas find their way in quite often) and cupboards (mainly for pasta and rice, but also tinned tomatoes. Never pineapple though, as both DC hate it!)

DH doesn't really hold with such chaotic cooking, though, so I mainly do it when it's just me and the DC,

No way. Maybe because my mum used to throw all leftovers together to see what we got for the next meal, and it was inevitably grim. When she was here after dd was born, she put baked beans, spicy salsa and mince with taco seasoning together for lunch and pronounced it delicious. I disagreed. Why would you do that??
