Hello MNers! I have a new slowcooker and the following ingredients:

Chicken
Bacon
Leeks
Mushrooms
Philly Light, lots of dried herbs and vinegars etc.

Can I cook these into something? Over about 5 hours on med or high?

TIA!

Have you got any lentils? An onion? Bit of garlic? If you leave out the cream cheese, you could potentially make a nice Chicken, Bacon and Leek casserole flavoured with onion and garlic, small amount of chicken stock (1/2 pint) and sit it all on about 3oz lentils to soak up any extra juices. Brown the chicken, bacon and onions first

Ooooh that sounds good Cog! Do you mean dried lentils? I think I have some dried red or tinned green.

Actually only have dried red lentils.

And would the mushrooms go into that too? And would I need flour to thicken it or is that what the lentils are for?

Red lentils will do it. I don't own a slow-cooker... don't like them... but the biggest pitfall with something that doesn't allow for much evaporation is that everything ends up very runny. Vegetables contain a lot of water so I'd leave the mushrooms out for another day. Red lentils will soak up lots of liquid and cook down to a nice fluff.

If you search 'slow cooked wonders' on Facebook (if your on it) you can join the group and there are loads of recipes for the slow cooker posted every day. Great for this time of year. I've done a really yummy beef and chorizo casserole/stew and apple cider pulled pork.

Yum! Will have a look thanks.

I would love to know about any slow cooker site where you can search by ingredients as above.
