No brown ale for my casserole - would Becks do?!

DH appears to have drunk the brown ale that I had bought ready to try in a casserole!

We've got Becks, but that's all in the beer dept. would a splash of this do do you think? If not I'll just have to add extra beef stock.

Stock. Becks will make it taste fizzy and metallic. Voice of experience

No swig the Becks and add more stock or a spoon of marmite or Bovril if you have any .

Blimey - I had this same thread yesterday about Grolsch!

I used a can of pale ale (which i found after i posted) marmite and brown sugar. happy to report it was delicious, very rich and tasty.

What I mean is I was advised NOT to used the Grolsch as a sub for dark ale, but chanced it with the pale ale.

Ale is fine, lager isn't. It's the way they make it that makes it unsuitable iirc.

It's in! A good slosh of Merlot and some marmite to help it on its way.

It's for tea tonight after the dc's swimming lessons and they're always ravenous so I'm sure it'll go down well!

I'll have the Becks later!

I've used lager instead of beer in stews before, works okay just not quite as rich

I used to do a JO chilli with a bottle of lager in, was good! Grin
