Got a lovely shiny new slow cooker, now what to cook?
Have got into a complete rut with meals and want to use this to get us/the DCs eating better.

Ive just put on Thai style pork - pork steaks, teaspoon fresh chopped chilli, 4 cloves garlic crushed, 100ml soy sauce, 3 tablespoons peanut butter, inch of fresh grated ginger then chicken stock to cover - leave on high for 2-3 hrs. Works well with chicken too
when you serve shred the pork and add chopped spring onions, over plain boiled jasmine rice. Im going to stirfry some peppers and broccoli for a side dish but you can add red or green peppers to the slow cooker at the start

am eating leftovers from last nights slow cooker dish- not really sure whether it counts as a soup or a stew - Chorizo ring chopped into slices and sauted with 2 red onions, clove of garlic. Thrown into slow cooker with a tin of chickpeas, whole diced butternut squash and 2 red peppers, then a tin of tomatos and some stock (veg or chicken) added. Cook on high setting for 2-3 hrs or low for 6-8 then before serving add juice and rind of a lemon, some chopped flatleaf parsley. Last night was served as a chunky soup with crusty bread and a dollop of natural yoghurt on each portion,

each of these took approx 15 minutes prep time which is pretty much how long the baby will tolerate in a bouncy chair Smile

lots of different ideas threads and opinions on hereabout how best to use your slow cooker - I find it makes food very soft and very bland so up the seasoning and add more spices at the end. I also tend to sear the meat and saute onions, celery and courgettes if I am using them, before putting them in the cooker, but others feel this isnt needed.
