Just made Hairy Bikers Sticky Pork Curry - is it meant to be so throat burning?

The only thing vaguely hot I put in was the 1.5tbsp of thai curry paste. Also a Chili, didnt have a fresh one so used a dried one. Didnt even put the seeds in.

While its been cooking the air in the kitchen is so spicy I've been coughing like mad. The sauce still seems very watery. I've added honey as per the recipe but the pork isn't stickest in the slightest.

It looks like brown soup with lumps of pork swimming about in it and just had a taste and my tongue is burning from the heat.

This is why I normally live off pizza and chips. I seriously can't cook.

Do you think adding coconut milk would help? Its not in the recipe at all.

there seems to be a consensus on the recipe review sites that 1.5l of water might be a typo and its possibly supposed to be 0.5l

I would tip a load of the water out, cook it out a bit more and possibly add a bit of coconut milk at the end if it is still too spicy.

Ahhh, that explains the wateriness though not the spiceyness. Thanks, will try that.

Must admit only put 1ltr of water in as thought it seemed a lot!

Oh sorry! A volume of dried chillies tend to be hotter than the same volume of fresh chillies. Its because they are lighter/ smaller and have less water content. So a tsp of dried chillies would be hotter that a tsp of fresh chopped chillies. Some types of chillies are also hotter than others, so using a Cayenne or Jalapeno chillies would be milder than using tabasco chillies

I made this tonight. I thought 1500ml of water was going to be too much so added 500ml. Still like salty soup. I reckon it should be 150ml. But then there will be a bigger problem with salt. Think the recipe is very poor and not checked. Less fish and soy sauce in marinade. A bit more lemon or lime juice and chilli for Thai style.
