Ok, sausage casserole. Can I add lentils?

Here's what I'm going to do:

sausages
swede
carrots
potatoes
celery

stock
tinned tomatoes

Put in oven for how long? Can I add lentils? How, do I just throw them in, or do I have to boil them up first?

Thanks - hoping for replies

Don't abandon me to my non-recipe everyone!

I think I would just stick red lentils straight in.

Thanks Bozza. Don't suppose you know how long to cook it for? Like 2 hours? Wouldn't the sausages go all soft and soggy?

Ooh yes, I've got a really good recipie for this:

Brown sausages, onion & garlic in large casserole dish.

Then add chopped tomatoes, lentils (my recipie says 150g red lentils for 4 people), veg and stock.

Boil and then simmer for 35-40 mins.

Yum. The recipie I've got is a bit spicy (too spicy for DD I think) and has 3tsp hot paprika, half tsp chilli powder and half tsp cumin in.

I do a sausage and lentil thing - green or puy lentils though - wouldn't work with red ones I don't think as they don't keep their shape. Basically fry sausages and onions, add lentils and beef stock, simmer for 30/40 mins then add a few tablespoons of creme fraiche. Is really nice.

But what you suggest sounds good too and a wee handful of red lentils would probably be nice - and would help thicken it. Let me know how you get on as might try it if it's good.

Ohh- sorry there's a tin of tomatoes in the sausage and lentil thing too...
