TV character foods have too much salt

Found this on the BBC site today.

Salt and additives are the two things I try to be fairly careful about. But short of running around with a calculator and guessing amounts of salt in slices of bread and cheese etc - how do you make sure that you give as little salt as possible?

Notice the link on the right to a similar story about salt in sausages - something I know ds quite likes - I only started giving him them in the last couple of months (he's almost 19 mths now), now I'm rethinking things...

Opnions please - all comers

my opinion is.... it so easy to give a bit of mashed potato with veg and a bit of fresh meat. Fresh pasta is easy to do with a home made tomato sauce. But I am lazy too and give tinned pasta and stuff. I suppose you just have to make sure it is balanced out

My opinion is that it's okey once in a while, but not as an everyday meal. If you serve it with fresh veg, then not too bad. Strike a balance!

My boys very rarely have these kind of foods, I'm no great cook, but DH does all the cooking and cooks everything from scratch. When they do sometimes have them while out, they tend to just pick at the food, proberbly because it doesn't taste of very much !!!
I cooked a joint last night with some fresh veg, every bit got eaten, they even wanted a spoon to get all the gravy.
I took them to Mcdonalds for a treat for lunch after the cinema, and they refused to eat there, said it stank, which it did, they also noticed the litter everywhere, and they are only 5yo. DS said "Gerry the Germ", was everywhere.

I've always refused to buy character food. DS does have processed food occasionally - loves baked beans (I'm not sure if I'm right but I buy healthy choice - low sugar/salt) but I don't buy tinned pasta like the stuff mentioned because I don't like it. DS is 3.2 and doesn't really seem to have noticed that I could be buying character stuff possibly because I do mainly internet shopping. Still am unsure whether I am making the best choices or not.
