Or you could try:

1 tin chopped tomatoes
splurge tom puree
minced onion (I know it's cheating but it's quick)
garlic
basil
s & p

Chuck everything in saucepan, put on lid, let bubble for a while. DH puts a little sugar in too. You can also include fresh toms in the mix if you want.

You can sprinkle fresh basil leaves to serve if you like.

just have the cheese to add but one more question...

It's made quite alot, can I freeze the left overs?

I have just done the following:

soften some onion and garlic in a pan with oil
throw in some other veggies - peppers, courgettes, corn, aubergine, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. and soften
add some herbs - I used basil and also some black pepper
Empty bottle of passatta into veg
warm through until all cooked
Add a tub of creme fraiche and stir; warm through

Today I have whizzed it all up with the hand blender; normally leave it whole.

I have served with meat balls, pasta, grated cheese and garlic bread for the girls (DD and Katz's DD1) and will give DH and Katz's DH the same later. I'll have it without meatballs.

I love Dior.

She saved my sanity this evening.

They ate it all.

Isn't so much a sauce as a topping but good anyway.

Roast cherry toms in oven for say 15 mins. Cook pasta. Roast some pine nuts but don't let them burn (check after 10 mins) Pile into pan with drained pasta along with some balsamic vinegar and that squeazy basil they sell in tescos and bobs ur uncle. Is well nice and seems kinda posh when it's not really!

lulumama · 15/09/2006 19:57

gently fry half an onion (finely chopped) and 3 cloves of crushed garlic in olive oil, add i tin chopped tomatos and 1 - 2 tins of tuna (drained) . heat slowly, add a teaspoon of pesto sauce and salt & pepper to taste, pour of pasta and sprinkle with parmesan xxx freezes nicely too and kids like it as not too overpowering, can add chilli powder or sauce if not giving to kids xx bon appetit!

If you want an easy but not quick (I make huge batches and freeze) receipe for pasta sauce/pizzatopping/sausage casserole base - just say!

dabihp · 15/09/2006 20:37

Really simple!

Onion
Bacon
Tin tomato (plum tom's better! or seasoned ones)
fry it up!

add... anything else you got, or serve with cheese/ back pepper

Honestly Dior, they LOVED it.

I've sung your praises all over MN because of it (well about 3-4 threads)

I didn't have any stock cubes but added little extra worcestershire sauce instead.

Hide some veg in to too.

Honestly...you'll never believe how chuffed I was. It's propabaly the first time in months that they have all eaten all of their dinner.

You're my hero
