has to be pretty swanky - we were supposed to be eating at roka with friends tomorrow night but timing problems (boring) means we can't make the 7:30 table so have cancelled.

now need to book something last minute. the places i really love, like j sheekey, are bound to be fully booked - so looking for somewhere less 'known' iyswim.

look under "culture vultures" topic - there was a thread about good restaurants about a week ago. Take a look and see if anything appeals.

ok since you were going to go to roka, how about another japanese?

here is a link to the ten best japanese in london according to squaremeal.

I really like Langans, Green Park. Lovely food and a nice atmosphere.

locanda locatelli - ok for veggies and just always find them so nice, i don't think they'd be snooty about someone asking for table for tonight, whereas most top restos would. availability is another matter...

You're probably not likely to get a table at anywhere particularly swanky.

Tutter · 14/09/2006 12:22

thanks all. locanda locatelli only have tables at 10:45 (45 mins past my usual bedtime).

bossykate - thanks for the link. it reminded me i like matsuri, so have booked a table at their st james place.
