Can I use Betty Crocker cream cheese style frosting to crumb coat?

I've made a red velvet cake and was going to use Betty Crocker cream cheese in the middle, it is a cake to be decorated so could I use it to crumb coat and under the fondant icing or should I use buttercream?

Also will the cheese frosting be ok out of the fridge?

Thanks Smile

'Fresh' cream cheese frosting is not suitable, but Betty Crocker is cream cheese 'style' so it's more about how it tastes that what is it iyswim. Hope your cake goes well

Yep, sure enough it isn't suitable, as I found out, I made some and it dissolves the fondant grrr.

Oh gosh nanny!

Better make some buttercream instead then
