I've promised the DC we can go to a Pick Your Own farm tomorrow. I'm in it for the broad beans, but they are after berries. Apparently all the strawberries are gone, but there will be gooseberries, raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants. I'd normally do a fruit tart (cheesecakey type) but we had that last week.

Trying a blackcurrant and pistachio tart tomorrow that's in the Sainsburys magazine. We often have blackcurrant tart, it's a fave here.

Or fools are good, just fold in cream or Greek yoghurt. We grow a lot of these fruits and they all freeze uncooked really well. I use esp blackcurrants in apple crumbles a lot during the winter, great being angle to just grab a few handfuls as you need them.

love the sound of the goosberry slices

and also thanks for tip about freezing - will definitely get some stuff for the freezer as well.

I had to come back and tell you I have just cooked the most delicious Nigel Slater recipe - pork chops in a gooseberry and vermouth sauce. Very easy, three generations cleared their plates. Grin

sounds great Smile

Sadly, I was outvoted on the goosberry slices - instead we've got gooseberry puree ready for a fool, with plenty to spare for the freezer. We've strawberries and tayberries to have with yoghurt for the rest of the week. And I have my broad beans. We'll go again in a fortnight if there's any pickings left.
