Can I make my warm artichoke dip with those jarred artichokes in oil?

I normally use tinned but I only have a jar atm and I've already spent the afternoon battling round Sainsbury's.

Ingredients usually: tin of artichokes, mayo, parmesan, garlic.

Will it be too oily?

I don't know if it will be 'too' oily but it will be oily. I recently needed tinned artichokes for a new recipe I was making. I couldn't get tinned so I bought a jar of artichokes thinking it would be ok. It wasn't. They were very oily and herby. Nice as an antipasti, but no good in a pasta recipe.

But if you are going to blitz them, they might be ok. All you can do is try?

Hmm, in-laws coming though! This dip is my fail-safe - might be worth a trip back to the supermarket!

Drain them well and dry on lots of kitchen roll then risk it? IMO the jar kind have a nicer flavour and texture but agree might be oily

And go easy on the mayo ?

GretchenWiener · 11/07/2014 18:19

is it nice? i have never tried

It'll be the combination of the oil and mayo which might not work.

Gretchen it is super-lovely and disappears in a flash. The DC have no idea it's made of a vegetable but then again I suppose the cheese and mayo don't really make it a health food!

Does it include cream cheese, yoghurt? If so just use the cheese and yoghurt with herbs and garlic, save yourself a second trip out, have a G&T instead!
If you've any tinned butter beans or chickpeas make a dip with them too for a bit of variety.

here - it's embarrassingly easy!

Ooh Allaolone I could branch out and do a whole new dip couldn't I? No cream cheese or yogurt in original recipe but I do have yogurt. I have butterbeans, I have chickpeas. Hmmm...
