What do you eat when yo are STARVING and are on the move and want to eat HEALTHY?

Sometimes on my way home from work I will get a really strong hunger (feel shaky) and it's hours before I get home to eat dinner and I don't want to eat junk.

The only fruit I like needs preparation before you suggest that. Usually I look for a breakfast bar thinking they are a bit healthier but wondered what others do...

oatcakes every time. always carry small packet in my bag.... and a bannana... seeds are also easy to carry around.

could you buy (expensive) pre-prepared fruit? or i find dried fruit gives you more of a sugar hit.

I pop into the nearest supermarket and buy a sandwich. Healthier than the crisps id grab at home I think.

Dried apricots for me too. Or maybe nuts and raisins. Pack an extra sandwich to eat on the way home - peanut butter or honey??

Milk is also good, but not practical if you are on your way home.

sunflower and pumpkin seeds, mixed with raisins - full of calories, full of nutrients

any other dried fruit or unsalted nuts would be good. Otherwise how about malt loaf (not Soreen type, Holland and Barrett do an organic one)

Raisins, grapes, almonds, yoghurt, cherry tomatoes, cold salads from M&S (good couscous, yummy cold pesto pasta).

All in theory, you understand...far too often I go for the muffin/chocolate bar instead!

So I'm not the only one that get real hungry on the way home from work. It doesn't happen every day. By fruit that needs preparation I mean :
Mango
Melon
Pineapple

I can't stand a lot of fruit and can only eat unripe bananas. Then I wonder why my kids don't like fruit!! They won't even eat the fruit I eat. I could buy the prepared fruit from M&S but it is very expensive. Do you think dried Mango is healthy. How could something so nice be healthy?

What are oatcakes like? Tasty?

bananas are very filling. Otherwise if I'm seeing stars and about to faint (yes, I am exaggerating slightly ) I buy a sandwich. I need filling up and the sugar rush of a chocolate bar doesn't do it for me.

Also, sainsubrys do a very nice pumpkinseed and sunflower seed oatcake.

It does score red for fat and salt but I think its good fat. But anyway, they're very nice.

Banana gives a lot of energy eaten if not very ripe. (have a diabetic in the family) Protein is more likely to stop the shaking, i.e. a piece of cheese.

oh yes, ginger oatcakes are fiiiine

but at what point does a healthy "oatcake" become a not so healthy "oatbiscuit" thats what I want to know.

I fear Duchy originals oatcakes may have crossed the line.

bananas and pumpkin seeds.i live on french fries and square crisps aswell. though not v. healthy but u can eat them without feeling too bad as low cal.those boxes of sultanas are good aswell.
