Meal I can make for a new mum that isn't spag Bol?

My friend has recently had her first baby. I remember how easy it is to not remember to eat regular meals!

So when I visit I'd like to take her & her DH a meal they can pop in the fridge or freezer & reheat without too much faff.

Any ideas?

Macaroni cheese, stew, lasagne, curry (you could even take one of those microwaveable cartons of rice). All freezable, all easy to eat with one hand!

I found chilli (I made both meat and veggie versions) with tortilla wraps and grated cheese/sour cream or with rice easiest after my kids were born. I found spag Bol hopeless as the pasta would go nasty when the baby inevitably needed feeding unexpectedly just as it was time to eat - chilli was mistake proof.

Curry would work similarly- or any one pot frozen dish. Delia has a veggie moussaka that froze and defrosted well - and didn't need accompaniment other than salad leaves or a green veg or even nothing!

A friend brought me a home cooked ham, fresh crusty bread, a jar of fancy mustard and some cherry tomatoes in a similar situation - great because I could pick at it all when I needed it. Another friend brought a quiche ans a couscous salad (which lasts a few days).
I would do a fish pie, lamb tagine or something that can be eaten cold.

Fish pie with a mash topping.

Cottage or shepherds pie, easy to store and reheat. Easy to eat with one hand and doesn't need an accompaniment, also not spicy if friend is breast feeding as spices may affect her milk. I found eating spicy food whilst breast feeding gave my DD terrible nappy rash.

Soup, cake, burritos or enchiladas, meatballs, risotto, fish pie, steak pie, chilli,

I really liked tortilla chips/veggie sticks and dips when I had a new baby. It was something I could eat while breastfeeding and very trouble free. Also one thing I would have liked and didn't have (because I didn't know they existed then) is one of those water bottles with a freezable insert to keep the water cool. I always got so thirsty when I sat down to feed and a water bottle would have been lovely. So much easier than a glass and less spillable. Sorry, that's not a meal but I don't think they're massively expensive and I bet it would be appreciated.

Thanks heaps for all the tips!

Good point about spicy stuff - will steer clear to be on safe side. Love the microwave rice idea so will definitely get some of those.
