Can I cook frozen white fish on the stove without defrosting?

I am always confused about frozen stuff. The packet says cook it from frozen but only gives oven or microwave directions. Our oven is broken and we don't have a microwave. Do you think it will be all right to just bung it in a tomatoey sauce and simmer it? Haven't got time to defrost.

I did this very thing last night. I can't see how it could be a problem.

Thanks! Just when you start googling for recipes and people write things like "fish must always be defrosted" - I get paranoid about food poisoning.

Well, I'm no expert, but I should think that as long as it reaches a high temperature there won't be any issues.

yes I have often done exactly that, it is fine.

Thanks again. We have eaten it, it was nice and no ill effects so far!
