Hi, I recently tried white asparagus in Holland and have fallen in love with it! Smile I've only ever seen the green variety in this country.
Does anyone know where I could find it here?
Thanks.

I've seen it in Morrisons. Quite why anyone would want that compared to the green version I don't know though!

Lidl?

I love the white variety too. We have it here in Belgium, drizzeled with melted butter and hard boiled eggs - asperges op vlaamse wijze.

Definitely Morrisons - it's not always easy to spot under the swirly mist but I promise you it's there!

Honestly mistlethrush, it was gorgeous! I had it with salmon. Smile

and thank you. Grin

Thanks everyone. I suppose I've never really looked for it, but know I've only ever noticed the green stuff.

Its OK - but green asparagus is so much nicer! I know that its not forced and just grows in the fields and compared to the white, a lot less has been put into growing it - but I don't mind that in the least. In fact, I have harvested and eaten wild asparagus in France - its even narrower than the traditional green variety and none the worse for that!

white asparagus is not forced and grows in fields too!!

Its grown under humps of earth, a bit like potatoes, and when it reaches the light it would change colour, but gets harvested before it can.

Forced wasn't the right word... Covered in black plastic would be more appropriate.

Yum. I love it too. Don't forget to peel it all those who are going to try it now!

When we used to have a local greengrocer in the high street I asked him and he said he'd get some when he went into the veg market where he got his stock from. Turkish cheaper than German grown.

sirchenjin Yes, it's under the swirly mist in Morrisons. I love that mist Smile.
