Chinese cantonese/ sweet and sour sauce

I buy some chinese sweet and sour powder to coat/marinade the meat in, however although the meat is lovely, its a bit dry so I wanted to know how to make the sauce. If I just add water to the powder it doesnt really work. What I mean is like when you get a chinese takeaway, the sauce the spare ribs is in.

Thanks.

Uncle bens sweet and sour sauce in a jar is very much like the real take away version! Hard to believe but true!

I use a mix of soy sauce, ketchup, the juice from a tin of pineapple (stick the chunks in too) brown sugar and a little red wine vinegar.
