Anyone want to join me in using up all the old stuff in their freezer?

I have soooo much stuff in my two freezers (one small chest freezer and a four drawer kitchen freezer) - they seem to constantly refill with leftovers and other random stuff and I have no idea what is lurking in the bottom! I also need to defrost the chest freezer but have no hope given the amount of stuff in it at the moment.

I've set myself a challenge to use up stuff before buying any new freezable items (which I know I won't stick to but it's worth a try!)

Today I used up half a loaf of slightly stale bread by making a bread and butter pudding, used 2 pints of milk for a white sauce for a lasagne, and got another pint of milk out to defrost and cancelled tomorrow's milk delivery.

However, the lasagne was so big, that half of it is leftover and will be heading for...yep, the freezer!

Tomorrow's tea will be defrosted Indian takeaway and then croissants for breakfast on Saturday.

I have a very small freezer, 3 drawers, but I will join you this month. Got lots of waffles for some reason, I'll use them for breakfast this weekend. Got a bit of dough I'll use to make some pastries with the bags of frozen veggies I have.
Got lots of soup, I'll serve that once a week with fresh bread.

I do this regularly, not bragging honest, it's so refreshing and a mega sense of achievement getting through all the 'tapas' dishes as I refer to them. then defrosting and cleaning the freezer, I am that sad lol!

I do it regularly too and I have a list of everything in the freezer stuck to the inside the larder which really helps to keep it clear it as I meal plan for 6 days a week and the 7th day is a bottom of the fridge, hoke around the cupboard and scour the freezer for edibles, possibly phone dominos day.
The freezer still has a tendency to fill up but it's very small and I think I like it that way - tries to convince self. I have a few bags of chicken bones which take up loads of room...so I might make a simple chicken stock today.

Welcome all Smile

I do have a freezer book which works well and then a load of extra stuff gets chucked in and not listed or the freezer gets so full that getting to the food in the bottom is a serious chore! Trying to think of how to use up the frozen chickpeas I have, especially as the kids aren't too keen, but will be using up the 6 English Muffins and the packet of ham for tea when mini-pizzas will be on the menu!

I could save myself a fortune at the supermarket on this weeks shopping bill at this rate!

Chickpea, tomato and bacon stew is a quick and easy lunch, add some smoked paprika if you've got it.

I know it isn't really the theme of the thread, but Blackjack, is smoked paprika that different to ordinary paprika (which is the one I have)

CogitoErgoSometimes · 03/05/2014 09:46

Smoked paprika is the thing that gives Chorizo its lovely smoke/spice flavour. Very different to the regular stuff.

I've only just discovered smoked paprika. Wow! Made my lentils smell all kind of bacon-y!
