My ds (20months) loves pasta with pesto sauce, but somebody alerted me to the fact that it contains pine nuts. we have no history of nut allergy in the family but I do follow the advice to avoid peanuts etc. Does anybody know?

Pine 'nuts' aren't nuts at all, they are seeds I think. Anyway, def. not nuts!

Yes, that's what I think. Seeds, not nuts. Found that out from MN, but had wondered for a long time. I suppose they could still represent a choking hazard, but are not nuts.

Thanks for that, I sort of thought that they were different to peanuts but you know how it is when somebody gets you thinking.

Oh, sorry, obviously no choking hazard if ground up in pesto

In shop-bought pesto the seeds are pulped. I would be wary in a resturant in case it has been made with parmesan that isn't pastuerised.

my three have been scoffing the stuff since they were babies.
