Trying to get DD to eat eg and today I made a Risotto with above which she devoured but I was wondering if they count toward your 5 portions.

If they don't would they if eaten raw ( I ask cos I love raw onions).

I would say yes, but thats a guess

SherlockQV · 22/08/2006 20:13

Yes, they'd count, in a large enough quantity...dont know how much you used....

SenoraPostrophe · 22/08/2006 20:14

yes they do, although you'd have to eat a lot of garlic to get a full "portion" and most recipes don't have a full portion of onion either.

I read that an average portion size is one handful of the produce. So a child's portion size is much smaller than an adult's portion size.

SenoraPostrophe · 22/08/2006 20:28

would your dd eat a child sized hanful of garlic then, hula?

hulababy · 23/08/2006 08:16

Nope!

But I mean as a general rule for other stuff. Thought it was a useful measure - so much easier to use than some of the guides that are provided.

Well my recipes always have more onion and Garlic than recommended as I love Onion and Garlic. Defo a handful of onion if not more. I probably use a small handfull (about 6 or 7 cloves0 in any recipe that requires Garlic.

I found this yesterday:
