While I was away on holiday with the kids, my dh decided to cook a meal back home for himself and 3 colleagues and needed single cream as part of the recipe, but he went out and bought 3 tubs of sour cream , then he went back and bought 3 tubs of creme fraiche - on his 3rd trip he got the cream he wanted. Now we are back from holidays and I have a line up of sour cream and creme fraiche to use up which we don't usually use. Any ideas?

sour cream you can use for dips, mix in some chives or something.

creme fraice is nice in mushroom stroganoff, or mixed with a littel pesto on cold pasta salad.

You could use them to make an ice cream, a plain vanilla and creme fraiche ice cream would be lovely. They are practically the same thing anyway ie creme fraiche is a type of sour cream. You could also just freeze them and use in sauces as needed.

Nigella has a delicious chocolate cake that uses a tub of sour cream. I make mushroom pasta sauce with creme fraiche.

Or, you could get some salsa and guacamole as well, along with an outrageous number of tortilla chips and spend all day dipping

if you make soup, creme fraiche is lovely added at the end and warmed through - yum.
With the sour cream I would second the salsa and guacamole idea and make nachos

beef stroganoff with the sour cream. Nacho's, guachamole (sp?) and sour cream dip?

Well, thanks for the ideas, i did the dip with veg sticks and a pasta sauce and also did a mushroom curry and creme fraiche with naan bread- it was really nice.
Today I am doing a german style of pizza thing which has sour cream on instead of the tomato sauce on the base and topped with spinah and cheese. Its called flammkuchen i think.
