Define "tangy" - it's not a quality I would associate with dhal!

I have an amazing easy Dahl recipe, but I don't think it's tangy.

Amrapaali · 23/02/2014 14:33

If you add a bit of tamarind, you will get tingly, tangy dhal. Grin

Lime juice will also do the trick.

Brilliant. Pls could I have the recipe and i'll tang it up as per Amrapaali?? Grin

No complicated recipe, Telephone. Just follow your usual dhal recipe. Add a teaspoon of tamarind pulp when you sauté the onions and tomatoes. Mind you, it can become too tangy, so reduce tomatoes accordingly. If using lime juice, squeeze in half a lime just before serving.

There is a good all-rounder dal recipe here; Tiffin Box

Or on the BBC.

Oh, and this is Tamarind paste. Just a little goes a long way. The pulp can make your dish darker in colour, so if you are after a vibrant yellow in your dal, then tone down the tamarind. Smile

Felicity Cloake has the 'perfect' Dahl recipe. It's become a staple in our house!

Tamarind paste is gorgeous. I often make dhal (made a bit tangy with a big squeeze of lemon) and then serve a cucumber and onion salad on the side, dressed with tamarind and mint.

Thank you so much!!!!
I also need a gorgeous simple curry recipe that isn't tomato based….?!
