how to use food colouring paste (for red buttercream)?

Do I just add it to beaten buttercream? At beginning? Will it affect consistency? Have heard it deeprns in colour if you leave it. Got to make & decorate tomorrow, will it be ok?

Any advice gratefully received!

I would hazard a guess that adding it towards the start (paste) would be ok.

Red can be tricky as you need a lot to make it a true red and it has a taste so you have to be careful not to add too much or it's in edible. Even 'no taste red' can have a taste.

Also because buttercream is not white the colour can be affected by the the yellow tinge of the buttercream.
