So I'm not a great cook and want something I can do mostly in advance/buy. Some are vege and children coming too. Please help with ideas. Won't be formal and would prefer a slow afternoon of grazing.

Why not do a veggie buffet if grazing?
Hummus, pitta bread, nice salad, dips, different types of bread, cheeses etc?
Then everyone can help themselves to things they like and not got to worry about veggie/ non- veggie issues?

Jacket potatoes with choice of toppings. Soup, bread and bits. Vege pasta.

Lagoonablue · 21/01/2014 19:30

Pizzas, garlic bread and various salads? Home made or bought.

Quiches, baked potatoes and salads?

A couple of lasagnes, I veg I not and er.......salads.

That is what I would do. Add bread sticks, hummus, olives etc for a bit of grazing too. I would make a big potato salad, a green salad, rice salad maybe. Tomato and mozzarella?

Veggie chilli with all the bits

Great minds......

I would do houmous, dips, salad, bread, cheese, crisps and then slice up a few pizzas and a quiche. I wouldn't make anything-no point.

Yes to buffetty stuff. Spanish tortilla is always a winner

Lagoonablue · 21/01/2014 19:32

Ooh yes. Vege chilli, warm wraps, bowl of cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salads. Make tortillas and have a bowl of nachos for a Mexican feast.

How about picking a cuisine...
could do french style eg Quiche or french onion tart(Nigel slater guardian google) is lovely.soup, cold meats, lovely cheeses
Baked Camembert plus crudités and nice bread
Or Mid East meze humus/baba ganoush/foul medames lovely salads etc with some kebabs for meat eaters
Spanish tapas? Roasted peppers, olives, tortilla, chicken n sherry, spicy prawns/ meatballs

All of these can be mainly done in advance/bought !
Would probably do mainly vegetarian with a few bits for meat eaters...
