I want to make cauliflower cheese, but what else can I put on the plate? Am kind of making it already so quick answers would be nice!

Just had some tonight with gammon. Yum!

BingoWingsBeGone · 20/01/2014 20:31

Gammon and mashed potato.

Methe · 20/01/2014 20:34

I always cook mine with rashers of smoked streaky bacon laid over the top and serve it with chips and bread and butter.

Yum!

Splodges · 20/01/2014 21:33

Ooh um the recipe was...

Heat some milk in a pan. Add plain flour a little bit at a time while stirring continuously. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir.

When really really really bored with stirring (and it's supposed to not have any lumps in it by then), boil some cauliflower until it's, um, done, and then chuck a load of grated plastic yellow cheese into the sauce.

Stir a bit more while the cheese melts into the sauce and then get the cauli out, put it on a plate and tip the sauce all over it.

I might have put some pepper in the sauce 'cos that's the sort of thing that people do who cook. And that's it Grin.

Why waste your time putting anything with it? Bake it in the oven with bacon and toms on top - done!!

Did you put butter in before the flour and milk? Just wondering.

Splodges · 20/01/2014 23:36

Hang on, is Gavi some sort of alcohol? I would probably like that. And DP would be terribly confused by me not only cooking a proper meal but also choosing wine that went with it, like I knew what I was doing. I badly want to do it just to make him wonder if I've swapped myself with my identical twin that can cook. Tell me a couple of intelligent things to say about it too, it'd be hilarious (and tasty - I do like the eating and drinking part)!

It didn't occur to me to put any butter in the sauce, but everything is nicer with a big blob of butter in it, isn't it? I will do that next time.

Could I really bake it? Just sling it in the small square casserole thing and cover it in bacon and tomato slices? How hot (gas), and how long?

Put some pasta in with it, and serve with slow cooked gammon. yum yum.

WilsonFrickett · 21/01/2014 12:00

Chips! Actually - cauli cheese is one of the few things I buy ready made, and I heat it up and do oven chips at the same time. Usually with extra cheese. Favourite dirty tea ever.

HeeHiles · 21/01/2014 12:05

Labootin · 21/01/2014 14:37

Gavi is a white wine.

I have cauliflower cheese with lamb casserole or gammon and peas.

Labootin · 21/01/2014 14:37

Mind you I now have a hankering for sausages

ouryve · 21/01/2014 14:39

Baked taties. chips

Lulabellarama · 21/01/2014 14:45

I put peas in mine, then have it with buttered granary bread and plenty of HP sauce.

BreconBeBuggered · 21/01/2014 14:47

You'll need potatoes to mop up the cheese sauce. Chips, or baked, boiled, fried, all four if you like - what the hell. But I'm a fat, greedy, heathen monster.

I like to warm up the milk for the sauce with an onion plus a little seasoning, and leave it for a while to infuse before I start cooking properly. Makes the sauce quite tasty before you've added any cheese.

balroymum · 21/01/2014 17:48

I love it with lamb cutlets and rocket and lemon salad. DH hates all of it so I let him play out with his friends now and then so that I can scran it!

dozeydoris · 21/01/2014 17:50

smoked bacon and crusty bread
