If I defrost my Christmas turkey leftovers, cook them in a pie, can I then reheat the leftover pie?

Or would that be 3 heatings in total so too many?

I have an enormous bag of frozen cooked turkey - I want to put it in a pie for tonight with some leftover gammon and some not leftover leeks. But if we don't finish it all can I have it for lunch the next day or not?

This poor bird! Killed, plucked, stuck in a bucket of brine in the garage for a night, roasted, frozen, defrosted, put in a pie... it's not had an easy life Grin.

We'll I don't think you're meant to but I do it all the time (and sometimes then nuke the pie for the following days lunch!) not killed anyone so far... Grin

I think I would do that, as long as the final day I just ate it cold (not reheating it again). I probably wouldn't give that final serving to the DC though.

I would put it in a pie but I wouldn't then reheat the pie.

Hmmm, I'm on the fence. It's probably one reheating too many for me, especially if it's only going to be chilled in between the final two cooks.

Can you just take out what you need, cook that, then instead of making a pie (which is bigger and you'll then have leftovers) just cut the puff pastry into slices and bake on a baking tray? That way you'll get a pie topping but only cook the amount of filling you really need?

I do it all the time - I didn't do it when I was pregnant though so my instinct must have been telling me it's probably not the best idea!

eddiemairswife · 15/01/2014 15:13

Yes you can.

IHeartKingThistle · 15/01/2014 16:20

oh no I still don't know what to do! could I make the pie with some of the turkey, leave the rest in the fridge then make curry or something with it tomorrow? or now I've defrosted it all do I have to use it all today?

Yes I'd do that OP - I always work on eating stuff within about 24 hours (roughly - ie the next day) once it's defrosted. I'd think that would be safer tbh.

morchoxplz · 16/01/2014 20:55

Could make 2 smaller pies OP and cook when needed...
