Chicken/pork left in boot of car for 5 hours?

Took my mother shopping yesterday and inadvertently got held up yesterday checking on poorly relatives. We had a lovely big organic chicken and a joint of pork in the boot. Temp inside the car when driving was 6-7 degrees for an hour and a half, and fairly confident the rest of the time it was cooler (when parked up).

WWYD?

And that was yesterday if you hadn't noticed Grin

gosh, i think that would be fine.
you might have been on a long car journey - but then the car would have been warmer.
it is quite chilly out isnt it?

ouryve · 23/12/2013 09:29

did it still feel cold when you took it out?

MrsPnut · 23/12/2013 09:30

That'll be fine, Delia suggests using the boot as an extension of the fridge in her christmas book.

It's probably ok - fridge temp range is 2-8'C - if it smells a bit odd I'd probably bin it, but if it smells ok I'd probably use it.

ivykaty44 · 23/12/2013 09:31

a fridge is set at 5 or below so it wouldn't have been much different in car to fridge and I am sure you wouldn't be worrying if the fridge door was left open for a few extra minutes

Helpyourself · 23/12/2013 09:31

It will be fine. Really. Xmas Grin

Trills · 23/12/2013 09:32

That's a nice cool larder/pantry temperature.

NoseWiperExtraordinaire · 23/12/2013 09:34

Yes it felt very cool, I had in the back of my mind that 8'C was the limit but just scared myself googling as have read somewhere 4'C!

But if someone on the net says Delia says it's fine that's good enough for me Grin

Thank you all Smile

Honestly it will be fine. My DPs always use the car boot as an extra fridge at Christmas. Its has always been fine apart from the year my DF bought fresh flowers and left them in there. They froze!

DorisShutt · 23/12/2013 09:36

We always leave our turkey in the car boot after collecting on Christmas Eve - or the garage if it's freezing outside.

Ice packs if it's warm too.

MincedMuffPies · 23/12/2013 09:36

8 is the legal limit OP. Most places aim for 6. It will be fine.

NoseWiperExtraordinaire · 23/12/2013 09:37

That's very reassuring, thank you
