I browned chopped up chicken pieces, added tin of chopped tomatoes and tin of beans plus some new potatoes. What else can I add to make it tasty?

Garlic? Other veggies?

SoupDragon · 25/02/2004 18:54

Bacon?

I've found that stirring in one of those Roule cheeses gives strange meals a lift - only good if you happen to have one in the fridge though.

Worcester Sauce?

Tinker · 25/02/2004 19:03

Oh, I do have some roule in the fridge I think, and lardons (hate that word).

What about herbs? Which ones?

crystaltips - yes, always perks it up

what type of beans? With salt and added sugar, baked beans, what?
personally I'd throw in loads of veggies -- carrots, yams, courgettes, brocoli, sweetcorn (could add chili spices, then) all come to mind.

Tinker · 25/02/2004 19:18

They were 'umble baked beans zebra. Was thinking chickpeas as well - not got much veg in hence slapdash meal - chopped up green beans?

Errrr, a take-away curry!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd leave it there to be honest!! Are you having a spring clean of the food cupboards by any chance??!!

Sorry only teasing, I'm sure it was lovely.

Tinker · 25/02/2004 22:20

TC - uncalled for, just read your menu for Saturday

I was, you know, food!

He heee love ya Tinker!!!

Anyway, how was it? xx

Tinker · 25/02/2004 23:42

It wasn't that bad - just for me, daughter was fed a 'proper meal' earlier . But I was trying to remember a recipe posted by Tigger ages and ages ago whch had some of these ingredients but I was too lazy to look for it

WideWebWitch · 25/02/2004 23:43

Tinker, I remember it. It had baked beans in it. And sausages? I think?

WideWebWitch · 25/02/2004 23:45

I'd have added garlic, onions, worcester sauce, chilli powder or chillis, carrots maybe. Oregano possibly. God, I sound pretentious now

carla · 25/02/2004 23:46

Will be forever banned by Mumsnetters - but half a teaspoon of sugar?

Tinker · 25/02/2004 23:52

Well, roule cheese counts as garlic and herbs doesn't it . Did add Worcester sauce. Couldn't be bothered doing carrots and had sausages yesterday. Wasn't to far off the mark.

Dying to know what it eventually tasted like!

marthamoo · 26/02/2004 17:18

Tinker,

Just wanted to know that you inspired me! Couldn't think of anything for dinner (not much in, overdue an internet shop, can't be bothered, rather be on MN). So...I went through the freezer and found all the frozen left-over odds and sods that are too much to throw away, so you freeze them, and then no-one eats it because it's only enough for one person. So tonight we are having lentil hotpot a la chilli con carne avec bolognese sauce with a smidgen of corned beef hash and a soupcon of shepherd's pie. Chucked in half a can of leftover baked beans and a small can of kidney beans too. Having it with rice and pitta bread. Tastes nice But if I'm not around for the next few days you'll know why.....

Thomcat · 26/02/2004 17:20

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Do they not deliver curries in your area!!!!!!!!!!!

marthamoo · 26/02/2004 17:27

They don't actually, you have to go and pick it up..so old fashioned! It tastes nice, honest - wish I had some banana leaves to serve it in

Thomcat · 26/02/2004 19:07

You have to go and pick it up - NO WAY! Another OMG!! How do you cope

Are you telling me you didn't serve that in a banana leaf??! Shame on you, you bad girl! You're family will be scarred for life if you continue this behaviour.

Mmmmmmmm, sorry but guess what I can smell cooking as I type - moussaka, ohhhhhhh, drool drool.

Tinker · 26/02/2004 19:10

mm - it's called 'being creative'.

Ignore TC - she's showing off agian

OP posts:
Thomcat · 26/02/2004 20:32

Creative - is that what you call it now?!! I thought it was spring cleaning you food cupboards and coming up with the most bizzare meal you could!!!!!!!

My mum used to do this to me all the time as a kid. I got sag aloo with cannelloni and fish fingers and other fridge / freezer cleaning disasters!! See i told you it can scar children for life!!

PS - My mosakka wasn't home made - agggggggghhhhhhhhhh - call the food police!
