Can I use pumpkin instead of butternut squash in a soup recipe?

I have a pumpkin left over from Halloween. No Idea what to do with it. But I've found a nice soup recipe that uses butternut squash. Can I swap my pumpkin for that?

Yes.

IMHO

Butternut is a bit sweeter, but as far as I am concerned they are totally interchangeable

As long as you don't call it "Butternut squash" soup... but I agree with DifferenceEngine they're pretty interchangeable, the butternut is just easier to deal with.
