Has anyone tried baking fairy cakes with Wholemeal flour? did it work?

Wouldn't work for things where you need self-raising, but I do make bread using Allinson's 'wholesome white' flour (it's extra strong, though, so probably not good for cakes). DD has sarnies at school and used to be a really fussy eater who certainly wouldn't consider 'real' wholemeal. She's got better now and even eats bread with 'bits' in (i.e. wholegrain) but I do use the wholesome white sometimes. Don't know if they do something similar for use in cakes....
