wooden skewers for 4 year olds?

yumyummymummy · 07/07/2006 18:14

i am thinking of doing fruit kebabs for my son's 4th birthday party as part of the dessert and am not sure if wooden skewers with the sharp ends cut off would be dangerous for those children not used to them? Or are there any alternatives edible or not that i could use to thread on the fruit?
Also any ideas for easy delicious beautiful looking food would be welcome!!!

You can get metal and plastic skewers as alternatives.

I always use wooden skewers for my DD, now 4yo, and any friends who happen to be round. If lots of children, rather than 2 or 3, I would cut the sharp ends off too.

think they would be fine with the ends cut off and supervision.

I wouldn't do them at a party, personally (too much running round full of sugar) but fine for friends round for tea.

I know someone who does fruit kebabs on different coloured plastic straws.Looks good and safer than skewers i think.

Oh agalch that is a fantastic idea and I am stealing that straight away
