Am thinking of ordering it - wondering whether anyone has had a look at it and whether the recipes look good (for non-meat but fish eating family!)

It was in the Observer food monthly the other week and the recipes looked good (eg fish fingers with oat and rye crumb)

flicked through it in Waitrose and tbh it got my back up - seemed a bit smug, and I do not need smugness from my cookbooks.

Some of the recipes did sound tasty though.

hi i saw an article in a mag about it the other day and am thinking of buying it . Yes she is a bit smug but who cares if the recipes look good!!

We are also a non-meat but fish eating family, and I was thinking of buying it too (when I have a bit more money!) I really like Jane Clarke.

oh god, I can't abide the woman...

Tatties · 06/07/2006 12:10

I don't find her smug at all, I think she talks a lot of sense.

I don't find her smug either - although my knowledge of her has been limited to that column she used to do in the Observer ages ago.

If you get it Puddle, let me know what you think, and I may just treat myself!

puddle · 06/07/2006 12:26

Tatties there's some of her recipes from it on the Times online website - am def going to get it.

I've had a look at and although some of the recipes did look good they weren't exactly simple, not the type of ingredients that you'd normally have in your store cupboard (well I don't anyway). Also quite fiddly recipes

MrsBadger · 06/07/2006 12:41

I think that was what I meant by 'smug' cardy - you know, 'simply take the fillets and roll them in crushed buckwheat and wholemeal organic rye flour'.
Made me feel inadequate for not having that kind of thing around and/or not having time to make fiddly food. Good food yes, home-made food yes, tasty food definitely, but when it gets down to it I am lazy and can't abide fiddle.

Sure it's great if you go for that kind of thing though - I'm not an AK fan either but know some people love her.

ISWYM, I don't have that sort of stuff knocking around either! I just like getting new ideas and would probably 'adapt' some of the recipes if it was a hassle to get the proper ingredients.
