having opened the bag and rescued half a dozen unrotten ones before the smell of the bag full of green liquid overcame me now I've pulled the sprouts off them they will be perfectly edible won't they?

worse small: yes, rotten onion. it's a close thing though.

edibility: I often cook pots from which I've pulled off small sprouts but you should be careful. the sprouting means that there is a high level of some nasty stuff that you shouldn't eat in those potatoes. if they have green bits as well i'd chuck em, and if you're going to eat them eat them quick.

Might in extreme circumstances (is there a food shortage on your side of the country???)

Cook them thoroughly, I would say they are material for mash potatoes rather than anything else.... provided you could remove the horrible smell from the rotten ones....

I'd eat them, I have eaten green pots as well, but I used to pick mould off btread when I was a student, so I have a cast iron constitution.

the rescued ones are looking quite edible..if you didn't know about them spending the last few weeks with a rotting corpse..the plan is to par boil and roast..

dont eat green potatoes, potatoes come from the same family as belladonna, and green ones are NOT good for you.

Give them a good scrub and peel off any green bits. You could plant the sprouting ones if you have a garden. We did that and had quite a few potatoes the next year.

its usually pretty quick, can make you feel poorly(upset tum etc) depending on how green they are, when i say green, i mean as in the incredible hulk, just on the turn wont do any harm, and if you cut any obviously green bits off, then that should be fine.

As far as I know there is some toxicity in some vegetables that is only eliminated after thorough cooking, potatoes, especially green ones and sprouts are quite toxic but so are cigarreted people can smoke for years without seeing a tangible effect.
