salty blackberry jelly/jam disaster...can it be saved?

On the express instruction of my sil I soaked my blackberries in salted water to get rid of any worms. (Eurghh!). I rinsed well (i thought) and started my recipe which involves boiling blackberries, water and lemon and straining overnight through jelly bag ready for sugar bit. But..my gorgeous purple blackberry juice has a slight salty tang! Shall i just add the sugar and see what happens..how about adding chillis and making it a chilli jelly..any tips..or shall i just throw it away? (Sob).

Go pick some more blackberries.
I bet you'll be able to taste the salt in that jam, whatever you do now.

Rinse, soak, then rinse again to shift the salt.

Turn it into blackberry ketchup or blackberry and apple chutney.

Go and pick some more blackberries and turn them into glorious blackberry jelly. I always strain to make a jelly - can't stand all those bitty pips and it does catch the odd maggot or spider too! Grin

I just rinse my blackberries well in cold water as worms = extra protein Grin

I think you'd be better turning it into a chutney/savoury jelly and then picking more blackberries!

Thankyou. I tried a small amount to see if a blackberry chutney was possible, but I truly have achieved blackberry brine!! Not pleasant. So i've put it down to experience and come home with scratched purple hands and ladders in my tights..and a fresh bag of blackberries! Grin

What a shame to have to chuck it. Can you make up just one jar for SIL's Christmas present? Wink

We have an absolute glut of blackberries down here (south east). The best I have seen in years.
