chicken/ veg stock in receipes for slow cooker - do you buy or cook stock?

lots of recipes have veg/ chicken stock and I bought stock in cubes but it is so solty and I cook for the family with 2 small kids. it is not good o have so much solt. what do you do with cooking stocks for slow cooker - do people cook the stick at night?

I make overnight stocks iny slow-cooker tons! When I roast a chicken I stick an onion or a couple of shallots inside it with the skin on, then after all the meat has been removed, I break up the carcass a bit, put everything (including onion and skin) in the pot and leave it on low overnight. Strain it into a pot in the morning. I've also done lamb and shellfish stocks overnight, and they worked well too. Smile

I use the stock gel pots, one between a family in a meal is fine.
