I've just had a horrible compliment about my food.

Made some lovely bread rolls this morning for lunch and our guests proclaimed them to being as good as shop bought! I had to almost chew my tongue off - I know she meant this as a compliment but to me it's a bloody insult, if they are only as good as shop bought what's the point? - I won't bloody bother making them the next time - shop bought will do, I'll save my lovely home made food for people who can appreciate it.

Wanders off muttering to self.....

I suspect (like me) she has been subject to godawful baking by deluded friends.

So what she was meaning was 'as good as a professional baker'. Clumsily phrased though.

PS Dear all my friends: give up baking, none of you is Mary Berry.
