What do I do with loads and loads of fresh ginger

For some reason Asda sent me 800g of fresh ginger last week. I only ordered a little bit but clearly the order went wrong somewhere.

So what can I do with it? I nee some recipe ideas.

I don't even like strong ginger flavours very much.

could you freeze some?

DoItTooJulia · 14/08/2013 19:49

Garlic and ginger paste for curries?

I would say ginger cordial, but if you don't like strong ginger tastes, it might not be ideal!

PersonalClown · 14/08/2013 19:50

Freeze it and break bits off when you need it.

MeerkatMerkin · 14/08/2013 19:52

Freeze it, it keeps forever.

Or make ginger beer! Look up recipes online, it's yummy!

YoniBottsBumgina · 14/08/2013 19:52

You could have sent it back and kept a little piece!

Crystallised ginger for Christmas presents?

3littlefrogs · 14/08/2013 19:53

You can preserve it in sherry and use it for chinese cooking.

Or chop it, add equal amounts of chopped garlic, fry in sesame oil, freeze in teaspoon sized amounts and use for stirfries.

Or, chop and infuse and freeze as a remedy for indigestion/ nausea/wind.

Ginger is great. Smile

Cross posted with everyone.

I finely chop and freeze if I have too much.
Make lots of curries/Chinese type food.
this chicken noodle soup is lovely.

Chop it up and freeze it. Don't freeze it whole, as it's really hard to break bits off.

Our local curry place does a dish called Paneer handi, which is fried paneer served in a sauce containing shit-loads of ginger. It's gorgeous but sadly I have no idea how to make it.

Iirc Jamie O has a recipe for a quick ginger beer drink using fresh ginger.

Hurray! A wonderful person on MN recommended it to me ages ago, and I have stupidly forgotten who it was. Kudos to her, whoever she may be. :)

Madratlady · 14/08/2013 21:04

It's freezable? Ok will shove it in the freezer.

Yoni I didn't check what was in each bag properly, it had other veg on the top so I didn't realise just how much I had till it was too late!

I'll definitely try that chicken noodle soup

This happened to me, I peeled it and freezed it and I just grate it into whatever I need it for using my micro plane grater from frozen. I'm pretty sure it was a mnetter that suggested that to me.

Freezed! Hahahaahhaaha - I do, of course mean FROZE.
