Luncg ideas for family get-together - 12 people

Can anyone help me think of something I can serve for lunch at a family get-together next week?

I'd like to do as much as possible beforehand so I don't end up in the kitchen the whole time. I was thinking of some kind of meat dish with rice or pasta and letting everyone serve themselves. Does anyone have any suggestions for what they make at times like this? I don't have much experience of cooking for this many people so the easier the better! Thanks!

A big lasagne - meat or veggie or seafood. Served with salad and ciabatta?

Poached salmon or quiches with salads?

A roast?

I'm a veggie so can't help much re meat, sorry. I'd tend to do something like -

a lasagne, salads, bread

a couple of big quiches, roasted garlic and rosemary new potatoes, salads, bread

a chilli, rice, bread, salads, grated cheese etc

a load of baked potatoes with different bowls of filling and salad

trifle and/or icecream and berries for pud

Jacket potatoes and chilli/curry/cheese/beans with a salad on the side.

nigellas spanish chicken

I would certainly go for a lasagne/chilli/one pot chicken type dish. Maybe with some garlic bread.

So much easier (&l ess washing up) than a cold buffet.

One pack of Warbutons square wraps will make 6 pizzas with assorted toppings.

Plus coleslaw and or other salad

Maybe a few trays of potato wedges

Are you looking for easy but good or impressive?

MumbleBag · 21/07/2013 17:19

Love the look of the Nigella Spanish Chicken - thanks snice

Doesn't have to be impressive. Just tasty! I did buffet bits last time but that was a bit of a faff so one pot/tray bake dishes are definitely the way to go. My mum doesn't eat cheese which rules out lasagne unfortunately but a chilli could also be good. The Spanish Chicken is tempting though for something a bitdifferent (different for me anyway)! Would you just do the chicken and serve with salad and nice bread?

Pulled pork with flatbreads.

Salads

Chicken

French bread

It might still be nice weather so this would be perfect.

sorry - been out all day! The spanish chicken is v.easy and tasty. I would do with green salad and bread yes. hope you enjoy it
